Naturally, every stud<.'rH is not goingjo givl! blood. Sl'me
are frightened of the thought-though :>uch tear is cnttrely
ungrounded-and some just lack that humnn,lnrian foresight
which allows them to realize the conscqu~nc<.'s oC their in­

A Worth zvlzile Dance
Seldom does the LOG editorially recommend Lhal the
students of this college attend a particular social !unction,
but in the case of the Phi Mu Alpha formal tonight we feel
that a departure from custom is not only acceptable but
called for.
It is not because of the noble obJective of this fund-raising
endeavor-though certainly Ute raising of money for a music
scholar!)htp here is noble that we recommend this dance.
Rather it is because we feel that those members of the student
bod>• who enjoy dances wiU iind this one particularly en­
JOyable.
Last year-the fir.;t year in which the· organization
sponsored jts own dance with music by its own band-the
affair was awar.ded a reception far below that which it de­
served. This was due. howe\'er, not to any fault wilh the dance
itself but because of poor scheduling which placed the event
one ·week after May Fete.
Those who were in attendance found lhl! 15-piece orches­
tra one of the most danceable to appear on this campus during
the year.
lt is because we feel that this dance, being a comparath·e
newcomer to the LewiS and Clark social calendar, might suf­
fer in attendance through lack of publicity that we call it to
your attention.
v.,re have no :reason to believe our approval will need to
be qualified.
Knute Rockne. the immortal Not~ Dame football coach,
is well-known for saying, "lt matters not if you win or lost>,
but how you play the game."
Stirrmg as this may sound, 1t is not always the case­
particularly in regard to the backing a team recetves from
1ts student supporters. Too date. Lewis and Clark's grid season
has not been ultra-bright. However, if the squad comes
through agmnst Pacifac Unl\'ersity tomorrow and the powerful
ldaho State Bengals next Saturday, they will have every rea­
son to cons1der their season successful.

committee in regard to the student-ra1d Octo­
ber 22 was released Tuesday and approv'-'d ut

senting both students and faculty, weighed
the fnct..s of the matter carefully and arnved

Through three of his four years here-Cox
played on winning teams and earned all-con­

has remained on an almost "superman" level.
The LC record this year may spoil his chance What the committee's action accompllshes
is twofold. lt, of course, satisries the demands
for punishment of the culprits to the satisfac­
tion of Willamette uni\'ersity and certain
other sources.
But. and more important, it clarifies the
college's stand on such student raids It is the
LOG's understanding that the princtples ex­
pressed in the committee's report ate to be
included in future catalogs of Lewis and
Clark as policJc.s set by the administration,
faculty and ASLC •

ly desirable and commend both faculty and
