MORGAN S. ODELL
President DEAN OF STUDENTS
After more than four decades of teaching,
I can think of no better advice to give to
the young people of today th,rn the senti
ment contained in these words of Pasteur
which were read by his son on his famous
father's 70th birthddy:
"Do not let yourselves be tainted by a
barren skepticism, do not be discour
aged by the sadness of certain hours
which pass over nations. Live in the
serene peace of laboratories and
libraries. Say to yourselves first: What
have I done for my instruction? and as
you advance· What have I done for
my country? until the time comes when
you may have the immense happiness
of thinking that you h,,ve contributed
in some way to the progress and good
of humanity."
8. A. Thaxter
DEAN OF WOMEN
The high purpose and aim of Lewis and
Clark College is that every girl enrolled
may make worthy use of her opportunities
during these years of preparation, so that
her contribution may be a signific, rnt one.

After more than four decades of teaching,
I can think of no better advice to give to
the young people of today th,rn the senti
ment contained in these words of Pasteur
which were read by his son on his famous
father's 70th birthddy:
"Do not let yourselves be tainted by a
barren skepticism, do not be discour
aged by the sadness of certain hours
which pass over nations. Live in the
serene peace of laboratories and
libraries. Say to yourselves first: What
have I done for my instruction? and as
you advance· What have I done for
my country? until the time comes when
you may have the immense happiness
of thinking that you h,,ve contributed
in some way to the progress and good
of humanity."
8. A. Thaxter

The high purpose and aim of Lewis and
