we live within five feet of eight other people.

33 Our Community
34 Above: Sarah Van Dyck, Blythe Robe,
and Mike Fitzgerald in New York Our Community. What does it
mean to us? Is it where we live and
work? Is it where we play games
and relax? Maybe it is the space
we create for ours elves and each
other. It's padding down the hall
and making popcorn at two in the
morning. It's leaving notes in the
bathroom for our hallmates. ("Please
clean out the sink when you shave
in it. Thanks!") Or reading that
same note, bleary-eyed, at eight in
the morning.
We find our community on a
couch in New York. We find it in a
parade in Portland, reminding us to
take care of our planet. Our com
munity is where we shower in
evening gowns, play in the mud, get
attacked by fat squirrels, and get the
flu. We get our hearts broken, slave
over papers, try to figure out
Ethernet connections, read email,
and choose the color chairs (blue or
green) in which we eat Bentos. In
short, our community feeds us (our
stomachs and ourselves). And
when we leave this place, if we have
done it right, we take a piece of the
Lewis & Clark community with us,
much like one takes 'starter' for
bread. With our 'starter,' we can
make an LC community anywhere.
So, classes of 2003, 2002, and
2001, as this year ends, prepare to
live in the LC community in the
coming year. Class of 2000: get ou

clean out the sink when you shave
in it. Thanks!") Or reading that
same note, bleary-eyed, at eight in
the morning.
We find our community on a
couch in New York. We find it in a
parade in Portland, reminding us to
take care of our planet. Our com
munity is where we shower in
evening gowns, play in the mud, get
attacked by fat squirrels, and get the
flu. We get our hearts broken, slave
over papers, try to figure out
Ethernet connections, read email,
and choose the color chairs (blue or
green) in which we eat Bentos. In
short, our community feeds us (our
stomachs and ourselves). And
when we leave this place, if we have
done it right, we take a piece of the
Lewis & Clark community with us,
much like one takes 'starter' for
bread. With our 'starter,' we can
make an LC community anywhere.
So, classes of 2003, 2002, and
2001, as this year ends, prepare to
live in the LC community in the
coming year. Class of 2000: get ou

Protest
On November 30th, a number of Lewis and
Clark students and tens of thousands of other
people were in Seattle to protest the World
Trade Organization's scheduled meeting.
Unfortunately the peaceful protests of LC
students were overshadowed by the actions
of a violent minority during the "Battle of
Seattle". Seniors- Class of the Century
