To the Editor:
1 see in the January 15 Vanguard of Portland State Univer'\.
that Lewis and Clark College is the site of the 1974 Miss Portland
Pageant. I thought that LC offered an excellent education to
people regardle s of their sex and prided itself on the in
telligence, skill. creativity, and integrity of it'> graduates. I have
never had reason to be ashamed of my tie to LC, but I am
ashamed now.
It is an insult to every young woman who graduated from LC
with pride in her degree and her brains to have the college
spon~r (no matter how much it is prettied up) what is basically a
body parade in which members of one sex are rated solely on the
amount and placement of the meat hanging on their bones.
Sincerely yours,
(Mrs.) Susan Gustafson ties
