Cedar tree cause:
a classic farce
Nearly every "crisis" at Lewis and Clark turns out to be
tempest tn a teapot. but the present picayune bickt~• 1ng
about a few scrawny cedar trees has to be a classic in the
annals of comedy.
Some students cry that we have no right to take the life of
a tree! To say thas and yet eat organic matter (which was
once alive) IS a "moral" contradtctlon which looks posittvely
Machiavellian .
Deer strap the bark from trees by simply cleaning thetr an­
tlers Storms blow trees down. Snowfalls crush them to the
ground Beavers chew them down to build dams whach
disrupt the ecology
Death 1s a part of ltfe and people are a part of nature! To
drag artificial, morahsuc nonsense into the plain facts of
natural life cycles ts one of the most insidtous forms of
pollution yet devtsed. and took who's doing ltl The tree­
savers!
Planned, man~ontrotteo gardens are destgned to please
man and at the same time preserve a semblance of natural
surroundings, but tn gardens we often om1t such natural
phenomena as rotting trees hlled wtth ants, forest fires. leaf
blights and other reminders of death which we seem to
dislike so much.
Or. Bill Ryan is absolutely right when he says people are
protesting President Howard's gardening policies only to
show they're unhappy with somethtng else
But If there ts somethang else really wrong, the tree-savers
should straighten out their heads and get back to realities
There s no excuse for taktng out one's frustrations on a poor.
