U democracy and fret.~om are lost m our good country
1t vnll be the re:sult of lethargy and selfiShness. M!Uly -a
high percentage of our citizens -refuse to take the time
to :study. to understand 1ssues and candidotcs and or wall
thems"lves from U1e facts by reJusmg to }J:;tcn to others or
:to :read themselves . LCers Show Disgust in General Gripes
When election time comes, n major1ty refuse to poy the
party campaign chest, re1usc to help m!Ul our party mn·
chmes (or lO be candidates for office) and m n high per
centage of cases fail to ,·ote.
Rarely do 60 per cent of eligtblcs take the trouble to
vote. Those who follow these policies are loudest in c.nti
casm of government. There is only one remedy; pa~·mg the
pnce of shnrmg the burdens and opportunities of govern-
ment.
We can readily lose our fr:c-edom by unintelligent vot-• 1ng or by default. Of course, this is written at the request of
students as an appeal for nctivity m the coming election. It
applies as well to shanng in student body government. A
student who is unwilling to shore in student affairs will,
m most all instances, be that kind of citizen in lntcr life.
It is only :fair to add, boweve.r, thnt a considerable num
ber of Lewis and Clark students in both major parties are
participating actively in this campaign, either as precinct
workers, or in the party headquarters, or in aid of a particu
lar candidate'~ campaign. Free lo Browse I cal nnnlysls of the ploys which
