Decline in College Enrollment
The drop in enrollment figures expected to result from
the present emergency will not be as great as was antici
pated, according to President Morgan S. Odell who has re
cently returned from the Association of American Colleges'
annual meeting in Atlantic City, January 10.
''This optimism;· he explained, ''is due to two factors:
ru-st. to the sound program which representali\'es from 600
institutions adopted nnd recommended to General George
C. Marshal , secretary of rlefensc: and second, to the willing

no yell leaders, the cheering was haphazard and the team
was drubbed.
The question :in point is not whether an orgamzed root

is the matter of the yell leaders fuliilling their duties to the
student body which elected them.
It is an option of students to support their team; for

We Repl)'. • •
The beginning of a new term is an appropriate time to
"set things straight.''
Du.ri.ng the past se\'eral weeks, the LOG has been the
target of a good deal of campus criticism, much of it m
vited. It has been labeled a "rubber-stamp sheet'' and a
''dull bulletin-board ish paper·• by persons who haven't both
ered to investigate the problems .involved in putting it out.
The LOG feels this is the time to speak out in its own de
fense.
Not a single point was brought out, e1ther in i.he cam
pus poll or the "shack petitio!}" of which the editors were
not already aware and working toward.
The staff is highly competent but it is small and over
worked. Writing and coverage in the U>G has been remark
able considering the scope of activity on campus, apathetic
cooperation from any news sources and the limited staif.
Several staunch critics of the LOG have turned down
mvitations to become contnbutors; they .found it much easier
to tear down than to help build up.
The editors have t.aken to heart tho_e suggestions which
have merit. During the commg semester every effort will
be made to put these into practice.
The LOG is doing e\·erylhing possible to publish a
paper which will please both the students and the staff.
This is a great deal more than can be said for most of t.he
self-styled campus press critics.

Decline in College Enrollment
The drop in enrollment figures expected to result from
the present emergency will not be as great as was antici

annual meeting in Atlantic City, January 10.
''This optimism;· he explained, ''is due to two factors:
ru-st. to the sound program which representali\'es from 600
institutions adopted nnd recommended to General George

on hand, that would ha\'e been sufficient to organize the
rooting of the small LC faction present. Instead, there were
no yell leaders, the cheering was haphazard and the team
was drubbed.
The question :in point is not whether an orgamzed root

is the matter of the yell leaders fuliilling their duties to the
student body which elected them.
It is an option of students to support their team; for
the rally squad, it. is an obligation.
