tangible result of this spirit of cooperation is a
new ASLC policy ~ratoment fonnulot ed after
a month of meeting and discue.slon between
the Policy ReView Board. the Coalition for
Integration . the AdmiMions Interest Group
and the Ad.mlnistratJon -dcallng with
mmority recruitmen t and enrollment
Noting a need to place greater "emphasis
on the recruitment of .Amencan minoriti es.
both in reference to the applicant pool of
students m gem~ral . and to the enrollment of
those indiViduals at Lewis and Clark." the
policy admonishes the AdmJsslons Office to
increase its efforts to teach and lnfonn
minority studenl6 in Portland and nationall y
about LC and the available financial aid
opportunities
Also deserving the auention of the l.C
community are efforts by the 'Jtudent groups
just mentioned to organize meetings be­
tween LC students and minority high school
students over the winter break. The hope is to
present LC as an attracbve and VIable choice
among students who rrught not otherwise
consider it as a pro pective college
In another de\-elopment. LC ha5 become a
member school of the ABC, A Beller Chance
program . A B C.. provtde~ opportunitieb for
minority studentb to study at a number of
htgh-quaJity secondary school6, most of
which are located in Atlantic Coastal States.
For a small financial committment. a descrip­

By their actionb, both student groups and
the adrninibtration appear to be moving for­
ward in the effort to increase minority enrol·
