By 1ow most students hnvo realized that the Log 1s only
commg out onct'! a week. Some are grumbling that they are
betng gypped. In a sense that's true, but only 1n a very limited
sense.
Tho reason the Log has cut the number of issues IS s1mpte:
1t 1S too grueling a grmd to pubhsh a paper twice week.ly.
Publishing that often is 1 40 hour a week job tor the 13dltors
of the paper. 11 I=> too hard ror those three or tour people to
hold up under the-pressure ot constant deadltnes, of work1ng
until 3 a.m .. ol missmg classes and flunking tests in order to
see that an 1ssue IS done. It IS tust too much.
Last year Lew1s and Clark was the only small college tn
the Northwest that published tw1ce weekly. That editor
nunked or dropped two-thHds ot h1s classes to see that the
students were treated to "the same old cynicism. cnticism
and fatalism" (as one student saw it).
This year that editor 1s back, trying to pass all the classes
he missed last year. The present ed1torial staff 1s willing to
work hard to put out a good paper, but not to flunk classes
over it.
Last week students rece1ved an 8-page Issue of the log. It
was the best ellort yet by the staff. It is the sort of paper we
hope to put out regularly· 8 pages worth. So why a 4-pager
today?
There's not that much interesting news around right now.
We could pnnt 8 pages of Junk or even 12. But you'd st111 be
getting gypped. •
The other reason It's 4 pages today is the staff. We still
need time to get running smoothly enough to put out 8-page
ISSues. There IS a bewlldermg welter of deta1ls of stall and
newspaper organ1zauon that need to be worked out. It Is
gawd-awtul hard to set a paper and staff up while cranking
out an 8-page tssue every week.
Well, that's the Log sob story, but so be it. Once a week it
1s. people. But we promise to keep the b1gger issues rolling
out as often as poss1ble .

Fat LOG Reduces
By 1ow most students hnvo realized that the Log 1s only
commg out onct'! a week. Some are grumbling that they are
betng gypped. In a sense that's true, but only 1n a very limited
sense.
Tho reason the Log has cut the number of issues IS s1mpte:
1t 1S too grueling a grmd to pubhsh a paper twice week.ly.
Publishing that often is 1 40 hour a week job tor the 13dltors
of the paper. 11 I=> too hard ror those three or tour people to
hold up under the-pressure ot constant deadltnes, of work1ng
until 3 a.m .. ol missmg classes and flunking tests in order to
see that an 1ssue IS done. It IS tust too much.
Last year Lew1s and Clark was the only small college tn
the Northwest that published tw1ce weekly. That editor
nunked or dropped two-thHds ot h1s classes to see that the
students were treated to "the same old cynicism. cnticism
and fatalism" (as one student saw it).
This year that editor 1s back, trying to pass all the classes
he missed last year. The present ed1torial staff 1s willing to
work hard to put out a good paper, but not to flunk classes
over it.
Last week students rece1ved an 8-page Issue of the log. It
was the best ellort yet by the staff. It is the sort of paper we
hope to put out regularly· 8 pages worth. So why a 4-pager
today?
There's not that much interesting news around right now.
We could pnnt 8 pages of Junk or even 12. But you'd st111 be
getting gypped. •
The other reason It's 4 pages today is the staff. We still
need time to get running smoothly enough to put out 8-page
ISSues. There IS a bewlldermg welter of deta1ls of stall and
newspaper organ1zauon that need to be worked out. It Is
gawd-awtul hard to set a paper and staff up while cranking
out an 8-page tssue every week.
Well, that's the Log sob story, but so be it. Once a week it
1s. people. But we promise to keep the b1gger issues rolling
out as often as poss1ble .
