There ‘arc just asiiian_\' things tohitch about :itthet‘ii(ioftheyear

Beithereby known that:
We will finish theyear with :ibitchy t‘,(iii0l‘llli, hopefully filling any
gaps wemay have left.
The only problem with the ;ibi)\'c
statement isthat notonly are there
asmany things tohitch about asthere
have been inthepast, but ingeneral
they are thesame things. The well-
known pattern oftheCollege issimply
notopen tochange.
The student senate isstill nothing
more thzui arehearsal (‘i\1\.llli>43l‘ for

Atone lime. inour idealism. wewoii-
dered why the students ingeneral
paid noattention tosenate, but then
wewent toour first meeting anddis-
covered why thestudents don't care.
The question changed to“Why domost
ofthesenators even bother?"
'l'he community governmentproposal
may sonieday become reality, andwe
hnve editoririlized initsfavor, but
sometimes \\t?must wonder ifitwill
really make that much difference.
The red tape that itssupporters have
endured isamazing, hut itseems to
follw thesame pattern that itdidfor
theillUEl'ViSli1ltiOll proposal (better
known tomoney-givers from off
campus as“\Vho knows what those
innocent kids might discover ifwe
lc-ave them alone like that?"), Anew
intervis experiment isbeing planned
fornext year, butdoes anyone really
believe there might beachance of
itspassing?
While we're onthesubject ofliv-
ing arrangements, has anyone ever
considered the possibility ofincor-
porating alawenforcement school into
the curriculum? After anRA has
signed hiscontract andserved inhis
position for aterm orso, we're
sure hecould receive some advance
placement. When hewas finished,
hecould join thesearch forcrime
and immorality on anever larger
scale. Or isitmore fun tojust
play baby-sitter toone‘s peers?
ingeneral, the college adminis-
tration isprobably concerned with
providing agood academically-
oriented college forpeople who truly
want tolearn, but once inawhile
some reassurance would benice. The

The chapel onthehilltop will bea
dead issue bythe time school starts
again next year, but the building
progriirii will not. It's time tochan-
ncltheentire effort into finding some
way tofinance the science building.
The facilities inlloDiiie and Pcehles
are :irnaZiiigly good, coiisiilering what

miracle and transform thewhole col-

the latter, the insurance money would
be fantastic, and the tourist trade
would bebettcr than ifwereally

The brightest spot inthe college
scene has tobethe LCfaculty. it
ismade upofanincreasing number
offairly young, liberal scholars who,
by continually applying pressure to
both thestudent body and the admin-
istration, have been able tobring
about several good changes. The
curriculum committee inparticular
stands out as:1progressive body.
Their open hearings before each im-
portant decision have made itpossible
for any interested person toairhis
views.
Foremost among their achieve-
ments isprobably the approval ofii
skeleton pass-fall grading system.
We suspect that not many students
will use itatfirst, but the oppor-
tunity isavailable forthose who can
use ittoadvantage. lntheLog's
survey ofdepartments, wefound that
almost allofthem have opened the
majority oftheir curriculum tothe

We will finish theyear with :ibitchy t‘,(iii0l‘llli, hopefully filling any
gaps wemay have left.
The only problem with the ;ibi)\'c
statement isthat notonly are there
asmany things tohitch about asthere
have been inthepast, but ingeneral
they are thesame things. The well-
known pattern oftheCollege issimply
notopen tochange.
The student senate isstill nothing
more thzui arehearsal (‘i\1\.llli>43l‘ for

Atone lime. inour idealism. wewoii-
dered why the students ingeneral
paid noattention tosenate, but then
wewent toour first meeting anddis-
covered why thestudents don't care.
The question changed to“Why domost
ofthesenators even bother?"
'l'he community governmentproposal
may sonieday become reality, andwe
hnve editoririlized initsfavor, but
sometimes \\t?must wonder ifitwill
really make that much difference.
The red tape that itssupporters have
endured isamazing, hut itseems to
follw thesame pattern that itdidfor
theillUEl'ViSli1ltiOll proposal (better
known tomoney-givers from off

innocent kids might discover ifwe
lc-ave them alone like that?"), Anew

fornext year, butdoes anyone really
believe there might beachance of
itspassing?
While we're onthesubject ofliv-
ing arrangements, has anyone ever
considered the possibility ofincor-
porating alawenforcement school into
the curriculum? After anRA has
signed hiscontract andserved inhis
position for aterm orso, we're
sure hecould receive some advance
placement. When hewas finished,
hecould join thesearch forcrime
and immorality on anever larger
scale. Or isitmore fun tojust
play baby-sitter toone‘s peers?
ingeneral, the college adminis-
tration isprobably concerned with
providing agood academically-
oriented college forpeople who truly
want tolearn, but once inawhile
some reassurance would benice. The

The chapel onthehilltop will bea
dead issue bythe time school starts
again next year, but the building
progriirii will not. It's time tochan-
ncltheentire effort into finding some
way tofinance the science building.
The facilities inlloDiiie and Pcehles
are :irnaZiiigly good, coiisiilering what

miracle and transform thewhole col-

the latter, the insurance money would
be fantastic, and the tourist trade
would bebettcr than ifwereally

The brightest spot inthe college
scene has tobethe LCfaculty. it
ismade upofanincreasing number
offairly young, liberal scholars who,
by continually applying pressure to
both thestudent body and the admin-
istration, have been able tobring
about several good changes. The
curriculum committee inparticular
stands out as:1progressive body.
Their open hearings before each im-
portant decision have made itpossible
for any interested person toairhis
views.
Foremost among their achieve-
ments isprobably the approval ofii
skeleton pass-fall grading system.
We suspect that not many students
will use itatfirst, but the oppor-
tunity isavailable forthose who can
use ittoadvantage. lntheLog's
survey ofdepartments, wefound that
almost allofthem have opened the
majority oftheir curriculum tothe
system.
