The tuberculin method is a simple skin H.'~t and then~ arc
no TB germs m Ute fJUtd. Whereas the chest .x-ray only
bows if the germs arc active, tlte vnlue of the tuberculin
test Is that 1t show.l) lf an~ germs have entered into the body.
Each student should then check at the Infirmary on the
following Wednesday for the doctor and nurse to ch('ck the
size, shape and color of lhc mark. If the test is posltlVe, the
x-ray test w11J be admmistcrcd to :sec 1f the. gc•·ms ar~ or
are bt:-rommg act1v~.
.An important thing to remember. ~ays Mr!'. Ita Johnson,
collgc nurse, is that a pos1ttve reaction docs not mean that
you hnvc TuberculosL, but only thnt some germ~ rue present
m your bod'' and could become dangerous if not detected.
Mrs. John:son will be assisted by members of the Red Cross
and COL-ds from physical cducat1on classes and the vaccine
will be paid for by the college. But they arc not the ones ,•ho
v. 1ll make a succe:s.s out of the test. It's our dec1s10n-thc

stake The dtsease is not inherited, but is a commumcablc
one. Tuberculosis. Lhen, ts a public problem as well as a
personal one and you owe it to your family and friends. if
not to yourse.lf, co check.
The test should not be constdercd as another obstacle \o
getting a difficult day 0\'er but r:athcr as 3nothe1 "pioneering"
effofl of LC that if succ~ful will be nn example and in
pa~tion for all Oregon colleges and universities. The test ;s
not a required one for all students, but rather an \lxpecied

Mrs. John:son will be assisted by members of the Red Cross
