~
thnt tht' otfiCJal campus newspaper dtd not 01· could not
(becau~ of its yery nntu1 c) e:-..:pa e. s certain n~pect::; of stu

This '''a~ one of th~ opening parag1·nphc~ of the 1957
UARK. the new fi\'e-cent edition. Thh. is the 1 OG'::; fir.-t
otfici:tl r"Ccognition that sud1 o pap~l extsts, and now tht\l
we have, there are the following points to mnke.
First "e wish the editors would explain the meanine
of "because of its \'Cry nature" when describing the LOG
It b true that ''certain aspects of student opinion" could
not be expre.$$ed an the LOG-due to the lack of space we
could not prinL the long-winded ramblings which if con
densed to what they are worth could b"" pl'intcd. in our
columns-se\leral of the c letters of "opinion'' tn fact could
b pnnted in the spac • one take~ up.
Inter"stin~ to note, however, is that thc BARK editor:;
of the past ha"e allowed any language to be used, which
in tum he degrade-d their cifort~ to present honest student
opm10n. Pre,•iou:sly, we ha\'c noticed that the BARK's
columns have been filled by the same contnbutors-is thts
a cro.....:.s section of studtml opinion?
Howe\'e1· isn't it logtcal that if these people wanted to
brmg their ~npes to the attention of those who could remedy
the situation, they would publish them in an "officinl .. paper?
Or is it fact that some or the~e conlributor.s make il a
habit to complain about the school, the teacher. and the
administration without thinking?
The LOG does not belittlt! the fact that perhaps a
student opinion paper is net.."CCcd on this campus in addtUon
to the student newspaper, but does recommend that the
paper be put on a higher plane, especially since reauers
are charged. a plane where-Ul ~ opinions mrcd are not
those of some crackpot, are not derogatory to the point
of being r;idiculous and arc not merely long-winded
orations put to paper by tho~e eccentric mtTO\'erts who
bel1eve that bclie,•ing is for the follower rmd not for the
doer.
We feel that there truely 1s a place on this campus for
an opinion pape1· that appeals to th«~ mtellect :md cause~
contempla1ion. When the BARK reachl"S the pnint where
e\ ery Jetler has :something to say :md is leg1tunntt!, we
will welcome th£> BARK•-; contributions to campus hfe.

First "e wish the editors would explain the meanine

It b true that ''certain aspects of student opinion" could
not be expre.$$ed an the LOG-due to the lack of space we
could not prinL the long-winded ramblings which if con
densed to what they are worth could b"" pl'intcd. in our
columns-se\leral of the c letters of "opinion'' tn fact could
b pnnted in the spac • one take~ up.
Inter"stin~ to note, however, is that thc BARK editor:;
of the past ha"e allowed any language to be used, which
in tum he degrade-d their cifort~ to present honest student
