LOG Favor Amendmeitt
The propo!)ed amendment to the Lewis and Clark college
constitution IS a much needed change to further relations
between the campus publication and the student body. The
amendment, if pass~. will change the election days to Mon
day <md Tuesday, from Tuesday and Wednesday . It will
move up the 1·un-off eJection to Thursday and Frtday of
the same week instead of prolonging it lo Tuesday and
Wednesday of the following week.
For five years the LOG staff has suffered under the obh
gatlon of staymg into the night onWednc:;day to make 1\ure
the election results were published in Friday's LOG. This
was an unfair practice that took ad\·antagc of students who
recei\'ed nothing for their extra effort. Sometimes an entire
page layout had to be changed because there were more run
offs than were e.'<pected or every office had been filled on the
first ballot.
There are other ad\•antages m havmg the complete election • in one week. The pressur~ is relieved from the candida tes
sooner, and they save money with lhe shortened publicity
campaign. A longer period to run for office is not needed
on a small campus with a limtted student body hke Lewis
and Clark, The college grounds arc not littert'CI with posters
for a long period of time, and the counting board's work
is consolidated into one week's time. PIONEER LOG Friday, September 17, l9S7
