A Letter
tudent : W'ake
~o the editor:
The mo:>l 1mportant thing that a person should get out
of college is knowledge and that comes from studying. There
JS also a time for relaxatiOn . The students here try to sponsot
e\'ents which they feel you would enJoy. Why don't you
help support them?
Jn the past when an orgnm atwn ~ponsored a dance 1t
was well atlendcd by $ludents ~othing is more disgusting
than to work hours decorating . then ha,·e few people show
up. Less than 10 pe1· cent of the student body now shows
up tor aances.
A few years ago intramurals were the big thing on
campus. In football there would be around 12 teams, m
basketball and \'Olle\'ball we had both A and B teams
~
from organizations. Now we <ue lucky to get enough teams
for a league.
Le55 than 50 per cent vole at election~what'-. wrong?
Ballot boxes arc in convement spolc; on campus Students
are too lazy or not interested in student affairs.
Fir Acres theater present<.>d one of its best plays, "The
Happy Time," this weekend . It was a hilarious comedy.
Less than 10 per cent of the student body saw it.
Lewis and Clark has one of the strongest small college
football teams in the nation today, but do the students go
out and support the1r team-no .
Here is whnt LC offers the student: Tntramurals are
free to participate; you are admitted to athletic e\•ents by
student body earn: most plays are yours also by use of the
card: participation in organizations is free; the price of a
dance. and many aJ c free, is cheaper than a date downtown.
It is my opinion that unless we can do something to
sur up enthusiasm and interest among the students we
might as well cancel all social functions .
