When tl1e season came to nn ~nd, the 01·nngc nnd Blnck

championship. They were nlso in possession of one of the

Clnrk has either won outr1ght or slmrcd since cntenng the
NorUtwest conference m 1948.
Wmnmg a championship isn't accomplished by the per
formance of a few indi\ridual stars -tt must be done bv the •
work of nil 30 men on the squad, from the first tcnm quarter--
back to the last team scrub.
True, the play of some indhridual members of the team
drew recogllltion locally and on n national scope. P1oneer
players were named to no less thnn 25 positiOns on four dif=
ferent nll-star :.elections. One player was named to the first
team all ronferencc1 :rust tenm httlc nll-roast, ~md first tenm
httle all-American.
Such honors d1dn't fall on all LC play~rs. Some of the
names of the men wlto put in s1x days n week for 11 weeks
on the LC gridi~on seJdom will b~ associated with football,
e"·en by students on this campus.
That is why we thmk :that specinl honor is due to the
30 guys who played a st) lc of football LewiS and Clark cnn
a1v:ays be proud of, not only because they won but because
of the "ay they won. We can be proud of the coach, the
stars and those who wer JUSt ball players -for a job for the
college well done.
