Saturday night is the busiest rught of the week-not the
c..~ct words of the song but aptly expressing the situation
coming up tomorrow night when the LC.soe~al calendar e
perjenocs one of its bu..~icst nights ever.
Technically. whenever the basketball team is playing away
!rom home, the home social cnlenrlar has an open date. Thus,
·with the cngers playmg aL Linfield, the social commission felt
safe in scheduling the annual Sweetheart dance to fall on this
corrung Saturday. The Sweetheart dance has traditionally
been held during the logical sweetheart season, Valentine's
day.
But with all of the modern conveniences of travel, etc., the
dist3nce from McMinnville to Portland has considerably
shortened and wilh the second game of the aU-important Pio
neer-'Wildcat series being played in thal town. 1t must nlmost
be treated ns n 11ome game.
This brings us up to the problem of "whether to go to the
dance or to the gam~which is more important'!'' It oH de
pends on ilie individunl student. We hope that the social com
miSSJon ne>.1. fall will be a bit more lucky in making the social
calendar.

Ne>.-t week a new campaign will open on campus--a cam
paign not aimed primarily at raising money, but a drive to
open the eyes of people not only on th1s campus, but behind
the "iron curtain" of Europe.
'Iio the average LC student, the campus seems to be under
a continual seige of drives and campaigns to promote, support
or give to thlS worthy cause or thaL Enough so that we be
come immune to even the most valid causes.
The mam mm of this nl!w cttmpaign, the Crusade of FTCL'
dom? To rench 70 million people trapp~>d behind the ''iron
curUiin" wilh the news of what is really happening on the
outs1dc. The medium of contact between the people of the
free world and those on the otherside of the curtain is Radio
Free Europe.
Scrolls will be circulated next week for signatures--stgnn-
tures that will prove that the people or the United States nre
wholeheartedly behind the Crusade. Crusade chairml'!n nre • hoping for 25 million signatures of Americans on the scrolls.
