The past week has seen the climnx of :mother political
campaign on the Le\\•is and Clark campus . True to the spint
of this instllution, it was the kind o{ camptugn American s
bke to see hard-fought but clean Ch11rgcs of 'ole-trading
and .. deals" ha\'e not been heard. Mud slinging was discarded
in favor of cle\'erness.
The election posters and literature were, on the whole.
the f1ue.st ever seen on this campus. Cand1dates, campaign
managers, and supporters are all to be congratulated for their
conduct in this campaign.
Jt has been a credtt to them and to the school.

The new, yellow signs of the traffic commission are quile
in C\'idencc. Their acquisition shows 3 step in the right direc
tion by the commi"ion in smoothing out student parking ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
problems. The next step to be taken should be the repair and
repainting of the wooden pnrking barriers.
Some of these barriers ha\'C been so damaged or pushed
out of shape that it 1s d1fficult for the student parker to find
exactly the lines between which he is to park his car. Careless
parking, particularly in the freshman-sophomore lot, often
t.akes up otherwise usable parking spaces.
A well-maintained, well-painted S.)'stem of barriers could
do a great deal to alle\riate Lhis condition. E\'cry small im
pro\'emenl in the acute parking situation at Lewis and Clark
is a welcome one. W. B. W.

Ho got to laugh to pass THlS c:our1e. He'a a DEMOCRAT.
