Once again we are confronted w1th a ns~ m tuit1on. The
snm~ campus-wide complainL'> arc coming from those who
e1thcr do not or do not w1sh to undcrstnnd the ncce.sity of
such action.
There are also complaints O\'cr a LOG error which re
ported that Dr. Odell. in a recent com·oc:Itaon address, said
there would not be n tu1tion increase. He actually explained
that there would not be a rise in tuition itself but m the inci
dental fees which arc included m the tuition cost
Tlus. of course, makes little difference to the person pay
ing the pr1ce . • . lhe money is the same regardless of its
specific use.
What is significant is that the increas~ are necessary .
These !acts were explained in a front-page art1clc last week.
What is ~,·en more important is that the complete annual cost
for each student is $MO. and that the college mu~t pro,•ide
the sum above $480. This includes salarii.!S, present campus
rnamtenance and general academic program.
Small colleges mu. t face increased "lh•ing" costs through
out the nation. Lewis and Clark is no exception. The admin-
1Slrntlon. however, is doing 1ts utmost to keep these costs at a
• m1mmum.
Let's spend a litUe more verbiage in praise of the last
niu~ years• accomplishmcn!S and not so much in condemnation
of the actions necessitated by outside economic conditions.

Special commendation is due the Associated Men Students
and the "Smoker'' they stnged last Fnda) under the leader
ship of pres1dcnt Jim Goddard.
Also congratulations are sent to the nearly 300 students
and Dads who mnde a special effort to support the only event
offered for nll-rnale attendan~:e. •
Not to be slighted are those students who fought and
wrestled, \VOn nnd lost, and Alphn Rho Omega, which won
the first annual inlcr-Iratcrnity pillow fight.
Thanks are sent to the member s of the Police Athletic
league and especially little twclvc- yeor~o ld Johnny Rokstad
whose gymnosiic feats captured the interest of the enlirc
group. Friday, April 27, 1951

Also congratulations are sent to the nearly 300 students

Not to be slighted are those students who fought and

Thanks are sent to the member s of the Police Athletic
