W1th each udditional student leaving campus ·to take.: his
place in the JUmbled .mess oi international affturs the col-
lege go\-ernment becomes one man weaker. .
Because of this. those remaining must become just a ba
stronger and stretch nearer impossible limits. If Lewis and
Clark is to s\JI'\·h·e, t.. 'lch and every student must take upon
himself to be one ~~rude more interested in his campus
and its affairs..
It is heard e,~ery day on campus that it isn't fair that
some should go and the others rcmam behmd in th~ comfort
of college living and pastimes . But what is the-_ meaning o~ .a
rese.n~e? The word is self-explanatory a iaclion of a mili
tary forec held in readiness to sustrun the attack or defense
made by the rest o£ the Coree.
Most. if not all, students joining such an organization
did so of thell' own free will with promises of being able to
'finish school and. needless to say. a desire to "beat ibe
draft.''
In spl~ of this desire to be one up on the average stu-
dent tbev ha\·e been ordered to leave. Some have given up
everY ra"cet of campus responsib1lity as much as a month
befo~e leaving-dropping studies, slighting organizations,
v.·a ... •ning time. Others have kept going until the last day. ful
fWing obligations to themseh ·es and to others.
These latter are the ones to be commended. A :fatalistic
attitude and .ceverybody else be damned" outlook has never
put a person in much esteem with his fellow men. .
If an outfit is called it is the duty of each member m a
college student body to continue as be was before the call.

These latter are the ones to be commended. A :fatalistic
attitude and .ceverybody else be damned" outlook has never
put a person in much esteem with his fellow men. .
If an outfit is called it is the duty of each member m a
college student body to continue as be was before the call.
