We Hadn·t Heard --
We were t.aken lo task last week by g('mal, boommg
Jack Grimsted. erstwhile publtc a ~lations commissioner, for
"seldom prmling a controversial ,editonal. "
That oi course raise_ the qucst1on of what Commission
er Grimsted has in mmd by "contro\'ersial.' ' He offered
the possibility of droppmg football.
As far as "e have bee.n able to determine , he is the
only person this -not issue" hns occurred to. From here the
tSSUe is not even lukewarm. True enough that the football
season ended $9000 m the red.
What doesn't appear on the books is lhe tremendous
amount of publicity and good will the victorious Pioneer
gnd squad earned for the college £rom fans all over the
Northwest. Nine thousand dollars couldn't have purchased
that.
That is definitely on the proflt side of the ledger, along
with the often extolled phySical, moral (and financial?)
\'utues of the game to the players. Above all W(! must not
overlook the tlng-a-ling (to borrow a term from Professor
Roberts the spectators rece~ve.
Now where lS the traitorous dog who suggested dis
pe~ with this noble pastime? We are rather food of the
sport and $9000 in the hole or no, we definitely favor keep
mg football
As for the multitude of other unnamed ''hot issues''
secretly seelhing on campus, we must plead ignorance.
We're Just dying to know about them, however, so :tf any
• of those m the know will drop around to the office we'll
be more than happy to plant both ink-stttined feet f1nnly
on the issue. N.W.S.
