Da)· of' Jubilation
The names Meriwether LewlS and William Cla.r.k mean
little to us here. it appears. '\'e're named for them. but
we •e forgotten the herhag~ that goes along with the name.
Shouldn't we better understand the term "pioneer''?
The LOG ad\•ocates a full day a year for the ·celebration
of .. Pioneer Day.'' It should be a day of beards, calicos,
Jeans, barber shop quartets, group singing, square dancmg
and fun.
The dav should be mformal, whiskers and bonnets. •
boots and lace shoes, for students and faculty ahke.
Classes should be outlawed Ior the day. or at leasl
taken O\"er bv students. "Readin'. 'ril$', and 'ritbmatik" •
classes should be put in the curriculum for the faculty.
Pioneer Day could be a day of jubilation, joy and frolic.
a dav of ded1cat1on nd understanding. -W. B. W.
Turn Fronz th
The year 1950 is past.
Discarded are the swU'ls of serpentme, the gansh hats
and the blasting horns Only memories and echoes remam.
And to make the old year·s exodus complete, on the wal1
hangs a calendar of 1951.
As ~·ou thumb through Jts dozen pages, pause n moment
nnd consider this: jn your hands you hold 365 days-what
will you do with them? -Will the wheels of your mind only make deeper the
ruts of old habits, weaknesses and faults or will they tum
from this path to a paved highway of new Ideas, attitudes
and determination?
In 1951 turn from the old to the new. These dnvs are
J ours: make them worthwhile.
