L&C logo change: much like games
Perhaps you don't even reahze this· l..ew1.s & Clark College has
a new logo Gone are the two explorers' profiles, only to be replaced
Wtth a shield sporting -waves-of whatever naturalistic sprig you can
dunk of. It's on your handbook, it will be on signs, maybe even
tattooed ala 'Pnnceton Lion• sometime in the future
ThiJ year another logo change took place, though this one is
expected t:t~ery £our years. The official Olympic mascot of the 1992
Bucelona Summer Olympacs was a queer Andalusian dog called
Cobi He was drawn by an unde.tgtound cartoonist, quoted as bdng
•stoned at the rune. • He submitted Cobi to the mascot-sd.ecting
committee as a JOke; he surely spent less than a minute destgning it,
and spent Ius time thinking about who he maght offend
The irony of the matter is that Cobi was chosen, and the artist
is now both a rich ma.n and the target of other a.rtlsts' spateful hatred.
Critics blasted it as a badly-drawn asymmem cal Picasso-esque mutt,
and ya.k.ked at the proliferation of Cobi frolicking on everything from
coffee cups to menus to last week's underoos.
But the clincher of the story came as the new mascot for the 1996
Summer Olympics was unveiled The -wHA TJID' is the ugliest,
most ndlculou" pompous American p1ece of tastelessness t have seen
in a long time. It is Crest meets Jun.my Carter. Or an LSD tadpole.
It is said to represent 'The Future. • If that as the future of America

Last Friday, a fire destroyed
most of the lower level of the
Aubrey Watuk library No one

dollars worth of damage
occurred.
According to Bill Curtain,
Campus Safety supervi10r, the
fire began ln a closet in the lower

the fire won't be known untll the
fire department issues its report
on September 25.
The closet contained a Sun

According to Wayne
Pederson, Vice President for
AcademicAffairs, everythinglost
in the fire will be replaced by the
insurance company, Jessa $5,000

emergency fund set up to pay for
such insurance deducdbles .
The Macintosh SEs, which
had just recently been upgra.!~

RAM, will be replaced with the
slightly faster model LC It. The
LC lJ will come with a blac.k and

will be the IBM PCs £rom 20 to

As with the Olympic mascot, the people who designed, approved and
carried out the project essentially left the athletes and the public out lrutial damage includes the

And then there's the follow

Disney's new Ala.d.dtn.
Remember, not every single
movie in this guide will open as
scheduled . Invariably, some of
the films wiU be pushed back.
Others will open Dec. 25 in Los

(Scorsese felt he needed additional • revte
