Lewis & Clark College: Rose Garden collection

Photographs and documents relating to Lewis & Clark College's Memorial Rose Garden and the Rose Club, which was active in the 1940s-60s. The Rose Club grew out of a collaboration between the college's Men's Garden Club, the Portland Rose Society, The Royal Rosarians, and a group of Lewis & Clark parents know as the Jungle Fighters.

Roses in bloom at the Lewis & Clark College's rose garden. Text on verso: "Our roses at this season reach a second main peak of bloom, equal to those of June and surpassing them in color, as attested by this corner in the garden of the Men's Rose Garden club of Lewis & Clark college. Timed for fall peak is October 1-2 show of Portland Rose society, set for Meier & Frank's auditorium, open to all rose growers."

Men's Rose Garden Club

Text on verso: "Visitors who next summer admire the well-arranged beds of roses in bloom at Lewis and Clark college grounds will have groups like the above to thank. Members of the Men's Rose Garden club of the college are putting in many hours of volunteer work in winter weather, laying out beds and preparing to plant a greatly enlarged rose area."
